Jadara University Becomes the First University in Northern Jordan to Be Officially Accredited as an IELTS Test Center

In a significant milestone that reflects its academic excellence and leadership among Jordanian universities, Jadara University has received official accreditation from the British Council to administer the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). With this achievement, Jadara becomes the first public or private university in Northern Jordan to obtain such a prestigious accreditation.
The Language Center at the Faculty of Arts and Languages has been formally approved as an official IELTS test center following two years of meticulous administrative and technical preparations, as well as a comprehensive evaluation conducted by the British Council assessing the university’s infrastructure, qualified personnel, and strategic location.
A formal ceremony was held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the university campus to mark the occasion. The event was attended by a high-level delegation from the British Council, including Mr. Alex Lambert, Director of the British Council in Jordan and the Levant; Ms. Amira Manna, Director of Examinations for North Africa and the Middle East; Mr. Anas Mohammad, Head of Business Development – Exams; and Ms. Alaa Khateeb, Business Development Manager – Exams.
The delegation was welcomed by senior university officials, including Dr. Shukri Al-Marashdeh, Chairman of the Board of Directors; Prof. Dr. Habes Hatamleh, President of the University; Prof. Dr. Iman Al-Basheti, Vice President; Prof. Dr. Asmaa Al-Khasawneh, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Languages; Prof. Dr. Luqman Rababah, Vice Dean and Director of the Language Center; Prof. Dr. Ihsan Al-Rubai, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design; Dr. Omran Al-Jarrah, Director of the E-Learning Center; Dr. Hanaa Al-Shalloul, Assistant Dean; Dr. Nader Jawarneh, Vice Dean of Scientific Research; Ms. Lama Haddad, Director of International Relations; Dr. Muneera Jaradat, Head of the English Department; and Ms. Sakhaa Al-Rawabdeh, Director of Public Relations and Media.
In his speech, Dr. Shukri Al-Marashdeh expressed his pride in this accomplishment, emphasizing that the accreditation further elevates the university’s academic standing and provides students with global educational opportunities without the need to travel. He also stressed the importance of continued academic collaboration with the British Council in future projects.
Prof. Dr. Habes Hatamleh, President of Jadara University, stated:
“We are proud to be the first university in Northern Jordan to receive this important accreditation. This will enable our students and the local community to take the IELTS exam in a highly equipped academic environment that meets international standards, which will enhance the university’s global ranking and presence.”
Mr. Alex Lambert, Director of the British Council, praised the fruitful collaboration with Jadara University, noting that the selection process was based on careful study and evaluation of multiple institutions. He highlighted the university’s strategic location, qualified infrastructure, and staff that meet the highest international standards, stating:
“We expect this center to become a real educational gateway for thousands of students in Northern Jordan.”
Prof. Dr. Asmaa Al-Khasawneh, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Languages, expressed her pride in this achievement, adding that it is a continuation of the faculty’s recent successes. She also praised the university leadership’s unwavering support in advancing educational and professional opportunities for students.
Prof. Dr. Luqman Rababah, Director of the Language Center, confirmed that the center is now fully equipped to host both paper-based and computer-delivered IELTS exams. He noted that IELTS is recognized by over 12,500 academic and professional institutions worldwide, making it a valuable credential for students and professionals across Northern Jordan without the need to travel outside the region.
The event also featured the signing of a formal three-year cooperation agreement between the university and the British Council, officially designating Jadara’s Language Center as an accredited IELTS test center. The British Council delegation inaugurated the center by cutting the ceremonial ribbon and toured its facilities to view the certified setup.
The ceremony concluded with Dr. Shukri Al-Marashdeh, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Prof. Dr. Habes Hatamleh, President of the University, presenting honorary shields to the British Council delegation in a celebratory atmosphere that reflected Jadara University's commitment to excellence and international engagement.
